This book and its companion resource Play Me a Poem take poems as its inspiration to stimulates children’s physical and mental agility. Dance me a Poem accommodates a range of learning styles and intelligences and offers teachers ideas for full lessons or bite-sized activities during the day. The book shows teachers how to stimulate children’s music vocabulary and aligns with the dance and music curriculum for juniors. The two books each offer 21 poems specifically written by the author for children in Years 0-4 to explore through dance and music. Teachers who work through these poems and their accompanying lesson suggestions, will cover, over the school year, many of the expectations of the dance and music curriculum. Creative dance not only develops children's gross motor co-ordination skills but also empowers children by providing them with a new language through which to express themselves. Integrating music into class reading/sharing of poems is a fun way for children to explore poems in a lively, interactive way, and they can also use them as a springboard to explore music in the society around us.
