This document has been collated by a group of educators from Special Schools in Auckland. It has been developed in response to a need to have an appropriate curriculum for those students with complex and multiple interrelated learning needs working towards or within level one of the National English Curriculum. Information from overseas has been gathered and reviewed and a document written that reflects the special nature of bicultural New Zealand. Literacy and Maori advisors from Team Solutions have been consulted. This document is intended to support schools in the setting of effective targets to provide focus, direction and pace for special needs students working towards and within level one of the National English Curriculum. It is appropriate for students of all ages, having a range of special sensory and phyiscal impairments and communication difficulties.
